Digital Hundebiss is delighted to present a special release that will make your summer hotter than ever.
STP U51 is a collection of tracks inspired by the now-forgotten collective experiments made during the 1990s in Southern Italy to digitize Salento's traditional music genre, Pizzica Salentina, using the first commercially available computers in the country. Recalling the early attempts of Tecnopizzica, three decades later, AGOSTINO produced these tracks by sampling, dissecting, and computerizing the fast-paced rhythmic patterns of the frame drums traditionally played by Pizzica musicians.
The EP was entirely composed in Ostuni, Puglia and named after the only bus line connecting his family town with the city's tiny industrial district and railway station. All the sonic investigations behind STP U51 are part of AGOSTINO's interdisciplinary activities pursued with the platform Turbo Sud, a project aimed at reactivating archival materials and opening up new conversations around Southern Italy's sound traditions.
